1985 Pontiac Trans Am

This 1985 Trans Am started it’s life with an emissions era L69 5.0 liter small block that produced an anemic 190 horsepower.

Going from mild to wild, the engine bay is now home to a 408ci Dart small block Chevy with a fully forged rotating assembly that produces 10.5:1 compression and is topped off with an Edelbrock Pro-Flo XT system that blends old school horsepower with the modern day drivability of fuel injection.

Pushing 556 horserpower and 539 ft/lb of torque, this engine is backed with a custom built stage 3 TH700r4 transmission that is equally capable of lighting up the tires or cruising at 1800rpm on the freeway.

Fuel Delivery to the Edelbrock Pro Flo XT system is delivered via Fitech Force Fuel System.

How it began

As with most cars of the era, the 1985 Trans Am came choked with emissions control and crude computer controlled components.

The image shows a car with its engine removed, exposing the empty engine bay with various wires and components, and the red-painted body of the car.

starting with a clean slate

The entire engine and transmission is removed from the car, with all the wiring inspected. All unnecessary wiring is removed to clean the appearance of the engine bay. All the surfaces are cleaned, prepped and painted.

The finished product
